Who: Members of the Grateful Dead
Where: Rehearsal Studio (Front Street) San Rafael, Ca.
When: Sometime circa 1985.
Why: A certain member of the band has decided he wants to sing a new cover in the traditional cowboy slot.
He then start to strum a few chords and begins the first verses to which Kenny Rogers song? (The other members stare on in disbelief.)
A) The Gambler (obviously)
B) Lucille
C) Coward of the county
D) Ruby, don't take your love to town.

Which one was it? The winner will get to watch this video all the way to the end. Good luck to participants. Peace to Kenny and all. This story is entirely fictional, I hope.

The post video comments are hysterical. How did Bob get all those real players to stoop that low? This was before the GD became a really big draw, so they weren't expecting a cash cow.

I must admit that I saw more than a couple Midnights shows, on both coasts. Unintentional (I guess) comedy rock at its most cringe worthy. Imagine the mashup of B&tM and Hot tuna. Ok don't, but I can't stop the memory.

Stay safe, stay healthy.

In that video chat he listed Bobby and TM as a solo album.
That says a bit about him.

'Side project' and 'solo album' are not the same but close. Let's hope he was speaking loosely and just used the wrong phrase. I like the thought shared in another post along the lines of 'how'd he get those other fairly prominent musicians to go along with all that...'?
How indeed? Musicians do like to stay busy as a rule, as in any day with a gig is better than one without one. I'll write it off to that.

Five 'Gambler' films between 1980 and '94!
Not one or two. FIVE. Geez, how'd I miss those?
